Well, this report is for all weekend on the Skokomish.

We worked the Skok all weekend, and we faired reasonably well. The fish in the system have been pressured quite a bit since the opener and are a little more skittish, but that's to be expected. We've had slower days and better ones, but the hookup ratio per day has been really good. There are no shortages of fish in the system. We got a chance to fish the upper river this weekend, with the nets out we had some good water all to ourselves, which was a nice change of pace. We nailed a couple of nice chromers floating roe and had some vicious takes on a peach bead.

Beads have been fishing well, in the later or earlier hours pairing the small bead with a bit of yarn has induced strikes from the active brighter fish fresh from the ocean. All in all, we learned combat fishing ettiquette and all the other techniques, fishing some popular spots and some of the more out of the way places. I don't think the fishing will cool down for a few more weeks, there have been fish pushing up through the mouth everyday. There are some monsters in there, we saw a 35 pounder get pulled in next to us and man that was a pretty fish. Our fish have been averaging 10 to 12 pounds, with a few in the upper teens. The action for the willing biters has been off and on, but I wouldn't say that it's been all that slow.

We've had better luck on light gear, with 10 or 12 pound leaders, the presentation is a bit more subtle than a lot of the other guys out there and it's paid off.

If you're interested in learning where the fish are, how to get 'em to bite, gaining the confidence to fish a busy river or just want to find the more out of the way spots I have a few days open in the next two weeks. Nothing beats the tug of a big Chinook!
