Yet another downer day on the Puyallup. Started at about 7:30 and stopped at about 12:30. Tried different length leaders from 3' to 7' with black corky red yarn, yellow/green corky yellow yarn, red/orange corky red yarn all with about a 1oz weight. Did see three guys bring in two nice silvers and a nice steelhead; problem is that they were just down the river from me. Am I doing something wrong? Seems like other guys are catching. I was going to go down by the soccer fields but that area was closed today. I guess for the indian nets. Any advice is appreciated.

I have had my best success throwing small presentations, say 3/4 inch of yarn and a small bead, smothered in shrimp jelly. dark reds or the darkest shades of pink that i have. leave your one ounce lead in your box, keep it to a half to 3/4 at most. Also I have found that these fish are not hitting very hard at all. Once I dropped down to 12 and 10 on my lines and a lighter rod with a fast action tip I started hooking far more fish. Oh and as for as leader goes, go with what you are comfortable with. I stay between 4 to 5 foot. One other thing, keep your presentation to the inside of the seems as much as you possibly can.

Chrome is right about the rod, 8' + medium fast. 5' leader. Color doesnt do alot, bright color are so u can see it. dark colors only prove there is no color combo needed lol Its a flossing game. Scent and bait are the only atractants that make them pursue it. wrapped roe or sand shrimp on a turbo float work well. If you read reports of guys using blacks or purples in the puyallup you know they are flossing and thats whats working, because there is zero visibility in that river..
