Went out to the 5th ave bridge this morning. Fished from legal start time (5:30) until about 8:00. I saw a total of 8 fished hooked and 5 brought in. All by people standing on either side of me (go figure).
I could see they were getting their presentation pretty close to the opposite shore, so I figured that is where the fish like to hold up.
I was trying to get out there as well, but couldn't seem to get my cast to get me all the way over. I figured my reel probably needs some cleaning as I feel like I shouldn't have any problem getting that far considering I was using a 1/2 oz weight.
I started to really fling it out there when I heard reel sing like crazy mid cast and then my weight dropped real short. Weird, did my line get wrapped around my rod tip? Nope. Hmm..
I start to reel back in and the retrieve is super choppy/gritty. I took the reel apart a bit to inspect and cant find anything wrong with it visually.
I put it back together and it felt fine, so I threw another cast and run into the same problem.
Peeled off all the line to see if that was an issue, nope still not working right.
Ok, I had enough, packed my my gear and calle it a day.
I'll have to get back out there next week and try again.
