headed out about 730..im new to the area but have been fishing the river for a few weeks..it seemed like it was gonna be a tough day but around 9 or so they started to hit...i usually fish for a few hours in the am or a few in pm..always wind up with something..but always small fish and I mean some really really small fish i landed a nice guy last week about 17 or 18 inch...if anybody nows any other good spots along the river or around the tumwater area that would be awesome

Dryflyin13... fished the Deschutes for years, used to catch lots of big Cutthroat in many spots, especially good in October and November for Searun Cutthroat... favorite stretch of the river is around Vale... report didn't state what you did with the "nice guy" you landed last week... the river is now "catch and release" only for all trout. Barbless hooks, and/or selective gear rules. Not many Rainbow in the river... any caught would probably be juvenile Steelhead. The "really small fish" are probably salmon smolts or young Searun Cutthroat.
