Spent the night over near Roslyn with a couple buddies. I showed them a few of my fishing holes on the upper Yak, and the lower Cle Elum river. Upper Yak, near Ensign ranch produced no results. We were fly fishing. Throwing a variety of bugs. Hoppers, various dry flies, nymphs, etc. Very fishy water in that spot, but nothing to show. Had some luck with VERY small brooke trout, fishing the lower Cle Elum river, in the area on the Suncadia conservancy, i.e. near Ronald. Fish hit a parachute adams dry fly immediatly as it touched the water. Again, these brooke trout were the size of kippered snacks in the aluminum tin in the grocery store. Still it was beautiful scenery and good times with friends.
We then proceeded way up past Salmon La Sac. We followed the upper Cle Elum river to just 1-2 miles below lake Tuquala... (sp?) You know the one.
My buddy had been successful in late Aug. up there, but by now the water was VERY low. The buds caught 2-3 6" trout, and I had only one blow up on a dry fly. It was a great day of gaining more experience with fly fishing, as well as doing what I liked to do as a kid... scramble through creek beds, explore pools looking for signs of fish.
I had hoped to get up to Cooper river, below Cooper lake, but chores called me back.
