Went to the sky jail hole after class on Thursday. Lately ive been lazy and not really fishing very smart. But thursday i decided to do a little work on set up a super stealthy rig . I used 30 pound main line braid (i hate float fishing sinking line) and a super long 6 pound intermediary line connecting my braid to my leader. I didnt let any braid get under the water. For the leader i used about a 5 foot long 4 pound seagar blue label flouro leader. This line is barely visible to me out of the water so when i put it in the river to test is was pretty damn near impossible to see. This set up with a dink clear float and a small split shot 2 feet above the hook worked for me.

Landing a 4 pound fish took me a stressed out 10 minutes but its worth it when noone else is catching.

Also, there so many bait thieves in this part of the river that i pretty much gave up setting the hook on small bites. I just let the eggs sit there until they get pulled under hard for 3-5 seconds and let the fish inhale the bait. This fish i got had the hook so deep i didn't get it out until i cut its head off.

The bait is only good for one cast. Thieves will either take it off slowly or the occasional coho will inhale it. Any kind of hookset = bait falling off anyways so just waiting for an inhale is better and actually gives you a shot at a good fish.

Also if people are standing in near where your float is downriver the chances of a strike are pretty low. I think the fish can see anyone on the bank from any point in the hole.
