Well I woke up at 530 to head north with a buddy but we were soon discouraged once we saw the river flows for anything north of Seattle! A couple of our destinations doubled over night. We talked for a bit discussing our next move. He decided to stay home and work on the honey do list, so I figured Id go scout the duwamish since I had a free day and the only hole I know is the 112th hole. Its a great hole for a lunch break trip but it can be a bit crowded on the weekends.

So off I go coffee in hand realizing that no matter where I end up on the duwy Ill be there well before sun light. Oh well wouldnt be the first trail walking in the dark and probably wont be the last. But I had plenty of time to figure out my plan of attack for the day. I decide that I was going to try jigging the entire time to attempt to figure this whole jig thing out.

I found a decent little spot down stream from I5 with no one there (uh oh can I fish here??) Within the ten or so minutes it took to get set up a sled heads up stream which I took as a great sign. The tide was high and on its way out (perfect!) the water wasnt nearly as stained as I figured it would be with all the rains.

On goes the marabou jig. About twenty casts in (with fish showing everywhere!) I start to think this jig thing is a bunch of smoke and mirrors. When all the sudden my next twitch is accompanied by a head shake. YEAH!!!! FISH ON!!! He put up a great fight, he came out ouf the water two or three times. The whole time Im thinking "really on a jig?!? sweet!" Now I get to net him in the nasty mud that borders this wonderful piece of scenery. First net attempt failed, fish gets mad and runs but I saw it was a solid hookset so I just held on. Second attempt leads to the first time using my new fish bonker I made at work the other day. ( I think I made it a bit heavy haha) A great looking rosey buck which is good because my wife is getting very tired of me curing eggs.

I retie (thanks to all the advice on this forum) and get right back at it. Sure enough very next cast toward the end of my drift/jig another head shake. Sweet!!! But I got excited or something (jig learning curve) I dont think I set the hook well enough because I felt all of three good head shakes then nothing. While I was disappointed I was very stoked how well this was all beginning to work out.

A few more casts and I change colors to something a little less bright. Two casts in to the new color and a solid head shake following a twitch. Man did I set that hook! Not missin another one. Once again great fight, a bit more than I was expecting. He ran me down river a ways. I was a little worried he was foul hooked. Finally got him in and saw it was right in the chops. I tell ya I have got to start bringing my bigger net. Got the second one in 15-20 minutes bonked. Another rosy buck.

At this point Im thinking Ill limit wthin an hour or so. Well I saw nothing after that last fish. They stopped showing nearly as much and the bite stopped for me. Packed it up and headed home at about 10:00.

Great morning on the river for not expecting much. Woulda limted in under an hour if I woulda been on it.

Thanks BR its easier to get excited about the details when you caught something other than another bill at Outdoor Emporium from all the snags.

Man I wish they were my jigs. With the nets in this week my evenings will be spent tying up some of my own and devising new patterns. Im pretty excited about that part alone.

Thanks! It was fun
