Went fishing with Gringo Pescador today in search of steelhead. Gringo took me on a tour of some of his favorite holes from Reiter down. Our gear of choice was float rods and either jigs, or in my case, some bead products I’ve been testing from hevibeads.com. To each we added cured pieces of prawns.

It wasn’t the most pleasant weather at Reiter today – breezy and misty/rain for the morning, which I will admit got the best of me around noon. That said, it was still great fun to be out in the fresh air getting good exercise. I still need to get felt soles on my wading boots!

Gringo, as I expected, did the steelhead catching today, landing a nice summer run native steelie at the drift across from the hatchery. It seems like (almost) every time I fish with him he gets one! It was a pretty, 5ish pound fish that he gently released back for another lucky angler to catch.

After fishing Reiter we wandered over to the Wallace hatchery, which I had never been to. Lots of fish in the hatchery - in the river, not so much. From there we ended our day at Wallace Flats trying to get a chum to entertain us. I had a couple brief bobber downs but no hook ups. We called it a day and listened to the Seahawk game on the drive home.

Looking forward to those winter runs!
