Got my chance to get on the water early today. After yesterday's success, I thought for sure I'd be able to nail a hatchery brat today. Right.
Started the morning at the big eddy. Arrived at 7:30. It was 25 degrees and there were four guys out on the island already. I suited up and waded out to join the pack. Tried for about 30 minutes before my line guides and reel froze up and became a nuisance. Decided to bail as I hadn't seen any action anyhow and I was getting frustrated with my gear. Moved down river to a location with more solitude. Took both my spinning rod and baitcaster float rod this time. When I got tired of clearing the ice from my float rod, I'd switch out to the spinning gear casting a spoon. After an hour and a half without any action I packed up and moved to the other side of the river. Fished for another couple hours trying various jig patterns and color combos along with intermittent spoon casting to no avail. Not even a takedown. Only spoke to one guy, who was in a boat, that had had a takedown that didn't stick, so seemed like it might have been a tough day. Curious to know the results of the day at the Tokul mouth. Don't think my line guides stopped icing up until about 11am. It was a cold cold morning. My fingers and toes certainly did not appreciate my Steelheading efforts. OUUUCHHHHHH! Quit at noon. I'm still thawing out. Pretty morning though.

I fished below the eddy from the rocks from 3-dark, tried jigs, spoons and finally some old eggs thinking the trouts would at least entertain me. Nothing even touched the eggs and I would have known since the bobber was on the light side.

Hahaha it does get reeeal annoying on those cold mornings doesnt it. Numb toes and fingers, and tough to cast! Steelheading... At its finest

Fished tokul, saw one and my guy hooked one but lost it. then went down to Snoqualmie below the big eddy, and my guy hooked the smallest steelhead hen on eggs, she didn't even pull the bobber down. she was about 4lbs.

Thanks for the input guys. It does sound like it was a tough day, so at least it wasn't just me. @schu, at least your guy got some action.
