Had an amazing day on the Skookumchuck! Started up by the salmon hatchery but only caught coho and never saw a steelhead pulled out. Met a fellow Washington Laker and went down to the fields. We found some new areas of the river we had never fished. Using a Thill center slider and our own cured eggs. I found a sweet looking tailout and wouldnt you know 2nd or 3rd cast later my bobber shoots straight down. Reel down and set the hook! Fish on! This fish isnt coming up at all, not a jump, just hugging the bottom, then a run up the river, then back down. Wraps himself around a log underwater and Im hoping this isnt a coho. Some how miraculously this fish untangles himself from the log and comes up to the surface for a second, holy heck this is a monster steelhead! I battle it and after a few more runs he finally starts getting tired. My husband swoops down and trys to net him, he wont fit in the net! New personal best! 38" probably could push 39, didnt measure him til he was stiff and crooked. A gorgeous fish and happens to be my first steelhead of the year, it sets the bar high for the rest of the year! We moved on to another hole and saw some fish rolling, I didnt have to wait too long for another bobber down, I hook up again this fish does one run and then comes right to shore, easy fight, and this fish is 32" I limit out on the Skookumchuck! My guy hasnt hooked up but after some frustration he hooks up and brings in a nice bright hatchery cookie! Its starting to get dark and we have a long walk back. Couldnt believe our luck! Those steelies love those eggs! It was awesome getting to meet you Matt! Only downside is they were all bucks! No eggs to replenish our stock.

It was nice finally meeting you and the hubby too! I just wish I could have been in a better location to record the catch. There is apparently still a lot you can teach me- and I'm looking forward to it. Although I was skeptical it turned out to be a beautiful day and you caught the 'winner'!
