Well I can confirm the reports from others, the Skookumchuck is slow. After that first pushing of early fish came through, they seem to have got stuck in the Chehalis. I'd like to thank Salmon Barry and company for fishing with me through the tough times.
First thing in the morning at the spot we were floating bait and had two nice takedowns that just didn't penetrate. After that the action slowed to a crawl. We practiced our techniques, bass style casting and toured the secret spots though, and then had a killer lunch with homemade bread and salmon dip (Thanks Barry, that was delicious!) A few firetruck silver later and the day was gone, and we called it a defeat.
Give the river a few weeks for those fish to find there way into it. The Chehalis is doing well between Centralia and the Satsop, so any day now those fish will load up the Skook. For now, I'd recommend the Wynoochee, the fish have made it that far already.
