So I decided to hit the Kalama for 4 hours today through noon time. I started at Indian Creek and ended at the "1000 ft below the falls line". I fished every inch of the river that even looked fishable throwing 1/8 oz jigs in "nightmare" pattern and black with pink coloring. I tried shrimp oil scent, homemade shrimp chunks, no bait, and spinners. I caught ZERO steelhead. However I did catch 2 16 inch resident native rainbows on the spinner, and 12 9-18" native rainbows on the jig and shrimp chunk combo. While it was not what I was targeting, to go out and catch 14 fish over 9" on a river in the pacific northwest it was an epic day for me!! Always looking for fishing buddies and I hit the rivers as much as I can.
