Decided to hit the Skagit with the pops after yesterday's failure. And boy did it change! When I arrived @ 5:10 I found that my favorite spot was taken, grrrr! So took a place next to them. As soon I could see the bats flying I started casting. At about 5:45 just as all the other spots were getting taken my dad hooks into a nice 4 pound hen, lands it, iki jimes it, and puts it on ice ASAP. After about 200 casts (8:45) I hook into a big, slightly humped, 5.5 pound buck. My first humpy of the season, and what a humpy it was! Screaming runs, acrobatics, and deep dives. I had to duck under 6 peoples lines to land the humpy, lol, what a fighter. I preformed iki jime, and put it on ice ASAP. Just as I'm done filling out my catch card my dad hooks into what seems to be a small trout. After getting it close to shore we realize its an undersize Dolly Varden. Back into the river it goes. About and hour later my day hooks into a humpy and fights it for 10 seconds then loses it. At 10:30 I hook into a jumpin' humpy @ 5 pounds even. Then a kid I met yesterday shows up and nails a nice hen with a pink marabou jig, 1/4 oz. Or did he show up before I caught the second humpy? Don't recall correctly. Anyways I was fishing at a bar near the railroad bridge that crosses the Skagit near a costco. Could someone give me a name? PS, all of my fish, and my pops fish, were caught on 3/8 oz Humpy Special Spoons, aka the biggest size.
