After hearing good reports about the Skagit River pinks, we decided to try this river for the first time. Launched out of the Gardner road boat launch around 8am and headed downstream. Being this was our first time on the Skagit, we took it real slow and stayed around the launch area for a while. Didn't see much action there, except i did see a huge sturgeon surface right next to another boat which was pretty crazy. We worked our way down river anchoring up and fishing in various spots until finally the old lady gets the first fish in the boat fishing a buzz bomb in a shallow area in the middle of the river. We fish for a while next to 3 other boats that are just nailing these fish, 2 boats were downstream of us, and the other upstream and we weren't getting anything. Frustrated, and about to quit, we decide to go do some exploring, and eventually end up a ways past the I5 bridge. Good thing we didn't go home because we find a honey hole down there that is stacked with fish. It was fish on for almost 2 hours straight. Id hook one, she would hook one, and back and forth. We lost a lot of fish today, and a lot of gear too due to all the logs in the water, but in the end we got 2 limits of pinks, and had a good time catching these fish. All our fish today came on 2.5" buzz bombs. We also tried jigs, sand shrimp and the rig i use on the Stilly which is a dick nite under a float, but nothing worked except buzz bombs. There is a lot of people fishing out there, and a lot of fish being caught right now. Can't wait to get out there again. Good luck out there.

Try using a 3/8 or 1/2 oz jighead with a pink miniquid skirt on it. They love them! Just cast and twitch lightly back to the boat. They are a bit cheaper than the 3$ a pop for the Buzz Bombs so it doesn't hurt so bad when you bust them off! Nice looking fish, thanks for the report.

Thanks guys. I did have a couple of those squid jigs (even hooked and lost a fish with one) but I lost them all before we found some decent fish. Its real depressing snagging a log and loosing a 4$ buzz bomb and siwash hook every time. After loosing a bunch of them, I went from 12lb flouro leader to 20lb flouro leader and I seemed to be able to recover from a lot more snags... wish I would of thought about that 8 buzz bombs earlier. what i use for buzzbombs are the gibbs kind that come in 4 packs from sportco for about $13 and they don't seem any less effective for me

1/8 ounce crappy jigs in white works great
