Dad and I hit the river but didn't even get a bite. He was using a buzz bomb and I had an orange/pink corkie with pink yarn. I did have three fish run into my legs and several rolling around me, though.

Where were you?

Not sure how well a buzz bomb is going to work in cloudy water. I had a guy in my group trying a squid jig and he couldn't get a hit on that either. As soon as he switched to a corky he started hooking into fish.

Thanks. We tried different set-ups to see if one would work better than the other. We found a spot off of N Levee Rd. Also, do they run in the deeper sections as opposed to the shallow flats?

I've heard many guys more experienced than myself say that the line of guys is too far out in the river. I've had fish bump my legs. But you'll never get the line to back up, and you can just stand back from the line because you'll be hooking into people on the drift. From the research I've done, and from what I've learned from more experienced guys, the real shallow parts with faster running water aren't very good. The fish can't hold there and they just run through it as fast as possible. The wider, deeper sections have slower water and where there are rocks or trees, there are pools where the fish can hold. You want those areas. For the most part, salmon will run on either side of the middle, and will often be close to the shoreline. Remember that they are swimming against the current. The middle is deepest, and the current will be stronger...it's easier for them to run on either side because the current is weaker. Hope that helps. Move further down river toward the salt...it was much more productive.

Buzzbomb isn't the way to go on that river lol. Use corky and yarn and you will catch them constantly

How long is your leader? I was fishing with a pretty short leader around 3-5 feet and had no luck. I started fishing at the soccer fields and used an 8-10 foot leader. Once I started that the last three days I've caught 4,2,4 - all pinks. And everything that I have seen agrees with Kingfisher101. I wouldn't use anything else but weight to bounce on the bottom with a long leader and corky/yarn at the end. It may help if you toothpick your corky to make it stay right by the hook. Hope that helps. Good luck.
