Ran down to 112th for an early lunch. Water was low and tide was still dropping. Quite a few people up and down the banks and saw a few hooking up here and there, but reports was that it was pretty slow. I stuck to my DN spoons. First 15 minutes was dead and then hooked an averaged sized hen that was C&R'd. A spot across the river opened up, so moved over there and didn't take me long to hook and lose one. Then the hits were pretty consistent. Landed a dime bright small Pink hen that was a scrapper, followed by another long line release of something larger. Followed that up with a large fish that fought like hell. Every time I'd get it to the surface it'd dive and strip line off the reel. Was flashing bright silver and was such a fighter, so was sure I'd hooked my first Coho of the season. Took my time and let it work itself out. Completely surprised when I finally brought it in to the net to see it was as dime bright big Pink buck. Largest Pink I've caught. Have been releasing all the Pinks I've been getting, but decided this one was fresh, so bonked it. Didn't have much time left, but cast a couple more times and nailed another large buck that had a slight bit of color to it, but no hump right before I left. Went 4/6 total. Still the Coho elude me. Saw a couple taken up the shore that I believe were Silvers, but the egg guys next to me didn't seem to be getting any, so maybe those I saw were just bright Pinks as well.
Where are you COHO?
