I was hesitant to go out to fish after work because of the high water in the river. But with what I have learned the past few years is that the hole location may change but the fish are still there. So I headed to one of MY holes and I found the water high but it was fishable a little lower than what is typical. I tied on a 4/O hook and loaded it with Humpy eggs that were cured with 3-2-1 mix and just enough red borax o fire to give them color. The first cast with my float and eggs set up didn’t produce but I didn’t know how far to set my float. I set the float higher on my line and cast again into the bottom of the hole. This time I let the offering flow downstream further into the area that I know is shallower than the main hole. I saw my float tick, this I have seen before in the same spot before as the jig/hook starts to hit the bottom. Knowing that the water is deeper than normal I set the hook and my float rod exploded with action! The quickness and sharpness of the bends in the upper portion of my rod were……my rod tip pumped very quickly and the fish danced on the surface about 40’ downstream of my location. I kept my tip up and retrieved line as the fish would allow. The fight was brief but frantic and the fish was landed. It was a large buck, he inhaled the eggs and the hook was set deep in his throat; this was a keeper.
I baited my hook 4 times, casted 7 times and had 4 hook ups. I landed 3 and lost one.
The action was fast and furious and I ended up with 2 buck and a hen. Net filets are over 20 LBS and eggs to boot. Great time!

I only rated it a 4 star because it was over so quick. I probably should give it 5 star rating as it was real exciting and I was so pumped up. I am used to catch and releasing a lot of fish but these fish once on shore were flopping so high I couldnt get a hold of them to unhook and let go quick enough to feel that would have survived? I had to bonk and slit gills..
I went to the same place today and got a limit of hens, lost 2 and released a cooperative buck.
