Got up before the crack of dawn and drove out to our spot, The Rusty Hole, on the Skagit to do some plunking for Cohos. After a marvelous season of Pinks, our confidence was high. Got on the river and started setting up at 6am. Got lines in the water around 6:30. River has been really high lately as the ground we were sitting on was much like quicksand.

The boyfriend and I started to wonder if our spot had been deemed a dead zone or something, because we weren't hearing or seeing anything but zombie pinks attempting to beach themselves.

We threw everything we could into that river. Dick nites, squids, marabous, and spin n glos, with and without scent, with and without bait....and NOTHING! We stayed at the Rusty Hole until about noon with only two groups of people coming down, both left without a bite.

The river has a lot of gunk in it, so it made for frustrating fishing. Hoping things are better next week!

I believe the Skagit has the selective gear rules, which means you can't use scented lures, and no baits. Just for future reference. If you want to try those other techniques out, head to the Snohomish.

Its only an anti-snagging rule during salmon season
