Another day off, forecast of sunny skies, of course I’m going fishing!

I gave Nate Treat a call and he was down for fishing out of my boat. Gotta give a guide a break and take him fishing, right? We met at 7am and launched out of Cady. LT was 7:30am and HT I think was around 2pm. Some initial fog that wasn’t bad enough to stop us from us destination – the upper reaches of the Snohomish river.

The water was low as I got us on plane and negotiated our way toward our first stop, the Douglas bar area. We made our way through all the snags without hanging up (well, scrapped a couple of them, but the boat is none the worse for wear). Anchored up in 10 feet of water and started fishing with eggs under a float. We decided, after tangling up with some shore plunkers (sorry guys, my bad,) that we should drift back a bit farther. My thought was to edge over to the far shore and fish deep water. Nate thought we should drift into and among some snags in the middle of the river. I was dubious but figured we tried deep water, so lets give it a chance. I was glad we did…

My first cast, float down! A short battle brought in a chrome bright 5ish pound coho. Nice! Bait up, cast, cast again – float down, fish on! Again, a short battle and into the boat comes my second chrome, about the same size. Now Nate is looking at me like I’ve got the luck going, and I do, as a couple casts later my float goes down for the third time and it’s fish on again. And into the net after a better fight, my third fish, all in probably 45 minutes or less. Amazing. So now I’m official done with coho and fishing for a bonus pink or steelhead. We fish for awhile longer in this spot and then decide since the fog has cleared to run up to the High Cliffs which is a good coho spot.

Running through Thomas Eddy and the Donkey Hole was fun. Lot’s of snags to negotiate, which Nate enjoyed. Me, well, running the boat it’s a different feeling. I was glad to be out of the wood and on to open water. When we finally arrived at the Cliff there were several boats anchored up and again as many side drifting the area. We found a spot to anchor and started working the water. In little time Nate had caught two more chrome bright coho drifting eggs along the rocky shoreline. One other person was catching a lot of fish, unfortunately all snagged, which killed the egg bite. We had lunch and drifted some shoreline before returning to Cady. Sad to say, we couldn’t get that final coho in the boat. All the same, what a beautiful day to be out fishing, and chrome in the boat, bonus!

I've marked Hot Spots on the map.

Thanks Nate for fishing with me today. Glad to trade off boat rides this week.

You forgot to mention I lost my hat in the Donkey Hole. If anyone finds a Pavati hat, it's yours!

Yes, I have a jet on my boat. That was your Pavati hat, wasn't it? Bummer. Sorry we didn't find it.

Hey Nate and Mike,
I would sure like to get in on those silvers. I am impressed that you guys are still pulling them out of the Snoho.
Any chance I could get a charter on the river, while they are still around? Or would it be best to wait for a little rain?
Short notice, but I have time this Wednesday morning. Would need to be off the river by 11:00am. This Friday has not time limitations.
Let me know. Thanks, Larry

Coho this late in the year? That's awesome. Don't have a sled but going to try and take my small glass runabout up and it the lower river this weekend.
Hot spots marked on a map? Can't seem to find the map.

sinkerswim - hotspots are located in three places for Premium Members - on the report itself (above), upper right corner, yellow lettering, click on "Hotspot". Or, go to the "Member" tab (which only Premium members have). Click on the 5th item down, "Hotspots". This gives you a navigator to look spots up throughout the site. Third, on the front page of the web site on the upper right side, there is a blue box that says "Hotspots". This shows the last 30 days of hotspots. The Forum has a section just for PMs that has an FAQ about all the PM features BTW. Hope that helps...
FishingTenor - Nate Treat is the guide, I'm just a guy fishing, LOL. I know Nate is fishing on the Cowlitz today so he likely won't see this. His guide phone number is (306) 481-0051. Try calling, if he has reception and isn't helping with a fish he'll pick up.
