I've been following the forums for a long time but this is my first report. Stopped off at the Green River on the way home from work today in Renton and tried my luck floating eggs. Second cast my float starts dancing around and I set the hook on this beautiful male Chum. Brightest Chum I've ever landed. Three or four more casts and I bring another chrome Chum to the bank but the hook popped out right as I was reaching for her. Really need to replace my broken net sometime soon. Would have been a 5 for me if I'd landed that second fish within 15 minutes of getting to the river.

Yesterday I was fishing with my daughter on the Green near our home and I landed the second fish picture. I'm pretty sure it is a hatchery steelhead but it is definitely on the small side. Around 22" long but only probably 3 pounds at the most. Is that a small steelhead or a really long and skinny rainbow?

Awesome! That's what I was thinking but i wanted to make sure. First ever steelhead for me. Drifting a green corky with a little shrimp scent and the steelhead inhaled it. Caught that within the first 5 minutes of being on the river yesterday. It was a pretty feisty little fish. Jumped clear out of the water at least 4 times. It was a lot of fun.

There are summer runs on the Green but they are mostly all native fish like the one in this photo. The angle just barely shows the adipose poking up. They range in size from that small 2-4lbs range up to lower teens. Generally I think it is best to treat these fish with kit gloves and try our best to help that dwindling return but I know a fresh dinner is hard to turn down legal or not.

It was a hatchery fish Duncan. The adipose fin was clipped. I wouldn't have kept it if it was a native fish.

Here's a link showing a different angle of the steelhead. You can clearly see a bump where the adipose fin was removed. Couldn't figure out how to add another picture to the report so hopefully copying and pasting this link will work. https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-SiXbiNn4kvw/UnvHYUSZu8I/AAAAAAAAA7M/4AHZxJRsEp4/w1566-h881-no/20131105_163116.jpg

It was definitely a small one. I would have probably released it but it was my first steelie and my daughter wanted to take it home with us.

Where in Renton did you fish? I live there too.

Perfect example of why it's unfair to make assumptions based on a single picture.

The steelhead was caught in Auburn near Lea Hill. The chum was caught in the area around 180th. Mike, I'm pretty thick skinned but I wanted to make sure everyone knew that I'm not out there poaching :)
