Work graveyard shift and decided since this morning was my Friday afternoon I'd go do some exploring. Never have fished the Skookumchuck. When I was a kid we used to ride horses off of Johnson Creek Rd but I was pretty little then and the fishing bug hadn't quite bit me yet.

Drove down and parked across from the hatchery. Fished a silver Blue Fox spinner and a shrimp tipped jig under a float down the river to where it comes back to the road.

That short stretch of river is beautiful and VERY fishy looking. Sadly there must be fish there to be very fishy lol. Few other guys fishing and no one was having much luck. Didn't see anything roll either.

Still an awesome day on a really nice stretch of river.

There are fish in the river. They are down lower in the system though. I was having the problem of not being able to get them to bite. I keep hearing there is a few up by the hatchery. I went up to the hatchery last weekend after fishing in Centralia and it was pretty dead up there.

They got a couple hundred more coho at the hachery over the last week, so they are in the system. It's just a matter of finding them, and then getting them to bite. With the recent rain (and more on the way) it should start picking up soon. I was there last January and hooked into a bunch of moldy spawned out firetrucks, so it's a bit early for the bulk of the run.

sounds like the first Coho run is pretty much over. B run will be starting soon
