The rise of the dawn today was absolutely breath taking. This scouting trip received a 5 star rating due to the absolutely beautiful steelhead that the Sky produced this morning.

First cast out produced a feisty little Dolly that decided to inhale the good ol' pink worm.

For some reason, the steelhead were having trouble holding onto my drift gear this morning; I was experimenting with size 4 hooks this morning. Pretty sure I'm sticking to size 2's from here on out.

Working my way upriver, I managed to play out a young buck, around 5 lbs. Bravo for attempting to spool me in the rapids; I would have done the same :)

Later on after the bite died off, I saw a single rise above the tail out. Something moving up? Much to my surprise, after walking down and chucking some bent metal into it's face, the giant hatchery fish decided to scrap! What a fight it was (thank you Mike for filming, and taking pictures).

I scouted the upper reaches of the Skykomish, targeted the tail outs and rapids, all of which seemed to produce fish today. For the most part, the fish were holding in the deeper parts of the run.
