Starting Time: 5:00 AM
Location: Skykomish River
Method of Persuasion: Egg, Spoon & Yarnies
Setup: Okuma Celilo 9'6" 4-8lb Rod, Pfluger Trion 30 Reel, 15 Pound Hydrofloat.

There's nothing quite like the eerie silence and distinct aroma that a morning rain brings forth. This unique morning we (Jack & David) were welcomed to the sandy banks of the Skykomish with rain, overcast weather and Steelhead Green water. Does life get better? Only after a few hundred casts and crawling over a hundred boulders in search of these chrome ghosts.

Three rods, two experienced anglers and one calculated aspiring angler meant 3 rigs; 1 float with yarnie, 1 float with pink worm and the unleashing of my metalhead side; you guys know how I got my reputation on the river. Spooner is the strangest of nicknames, but I receive it.

About 20th cast, Jack nailed his float down! Met by long, drawn out runs and lots of head shaking and erratic behavior (not to mention acrobatics), we knew this one was a hatch. He did a magnificent work fighting his first Skykomish River Steelhead, and on 4-8lb test gear; ultra light, Reel Priorities Style!

Meanwhile, David and I were busy missing fish (3 strikes on the spoon) though David did have a solid float sink, after a picture perfect cast that worked the inner edge of a seam. Another 20 casts later, Jack socked another Steelie in the nose and handed her off to David. After a good 6 minutes of instruction to David, it decided to run through a boulder field and nearly drown me, and drown I would since losing a first Steelhead is not scheduled in my calendar.

The Steelie put forth a valiant battle, but against David's now adept, tuned angling skills, we brought him to the bank. Score one for the angling brethren; we have officially added another member to our ranks!

If you're looking for a once in a lifetime experience, want to tune in your Steelhead angling skills, increase the efficacy of your outings, and procure the rock solid confidence that will provide you the opportunity to bag a Steelie on each trip, I'd be honored to walk with you, see you to the pinnacle of your angling career, regardless of experience level.

Your success is my focus. Your wellbeing is my objective.

Rock to rock, Cast by cast.

Thank you for the positive feedback; this is for those who cannot be on the river everyday as a guide, and for our weekend warriors.
Pop a squat, sit back, and taste the summer breeze and the Steelhead that run amuck.

Tight lines!
