Scouted the Stilly on Sunday getting ready for the season and trying to track down the fish. Started in Arlington at Haller and hit all of the normal spots. Finally found fish down in Silvanna at the Norman Hole. There a tons of little jumpers down there. The fish are the same as we have been seeing in the salt, SMALL! No biters. Couldn't coax anything, I think the water temperature is just too warm. It was like bath water down there. The next few days of low pressure may turn on some biters.

See you on the River.

Thanks for the report Matt. I am trying to learn the Stilly better and wondered where the Norman Hole is in the Sylvana area? Thanks

Nice report Matt. Jwright, I dont fish them often, but if you exit i5 and drive through the town of Silvanna there is a bridge that crosses the Stilly right before Norman road that people fish under. Also, if you take a left onto Norman road there are a few holes there also. Theres usually trucks parked on the side of the road with WDFW access passes in the window so they are easy to spot.

The "Norman Hole" is a sandbar down Norman Road as described by scraig1962. Just go through Silvanna all the way until you cross the river over Pioneer Hwy, then turn left on Norman Road. Follow that all the way down until you get to the big Warehouse/Barn on the right with a gated parking/access on the left. There are usually cars parked there. There is a steel cable following the road down from the gate, and "Do Not Block Gate" signs. Park there, and walk in. Walk along the ROAD the farmer allows access to the river but does NOT want individuals walking through the grass.

Matt, that is excellent advice for walking in. I've known Bill (owner of the farm) for years, and it is his generosity that allows us to use the property to access the river. If the gate is open, I would still advise parking outside and walking in as that gate is opened and closed daily and when it's closed, it's locked and you're stuck. And if you're like me, I do a walk up and down the beach picking up trash every time I leave. It's the least we can do for Bill.

There is no good fishing at the Norman Hole... definitely not worth the walk in... ;-)

Is it really not worth the walk in as one poster said? Any other feedback from local fishers appreciated.
