Got to the river at first light. Second cast and it was fish on! Landed a slightly blushed 5# hen. Thought it was going to be a stellar day. Was drifting eggs. Had a couple more hits after that, but things were not really moving quickly. I grabbed my twitching jig rod and moved up river slightly. First couple casts and I had hits. third cast resulted in a hookup which turned out to be a small jack Coho. Too small, so let it go. Two more casts and WHAM! Solid hookset on a bruiser. Took my time bringing it in and thought for sure it was going in the net. Just as I turned it to bring it into the basket it slid sideways and out popped the jig. Beautiful big buck that might have hit double digits. I was left holding my rod and net as I watched it dart off into the current. Things slowed way down after that.
