I figured I'd try the Snohomish River again today after getting skunked there three weeks ago. I launched out of Lowell at around 10am. I fished from the seaplane upstream for a little while trolling a Brad's Wiggler, with no luck. It really seemed dead out there, and I was thinking it would be another day like my last try on the River. I decided to motor up past Snohomish, hoping for some better luck. I trolled upstream from the boat launch, and the first boat I saw said there were some fish being caught further up, which is a good sign. I trolled up to the sand bar and get a fish on near the middle of the river. I should note at this point that I forgot to bring my salmon net, so all I have is a very small net that I keep in one of the small storage compartments in the boat (this net is not more than 18" deep). I play the fish out, and luckily the net is just big enough to scoop the fish out. I continue trolling the orange Brad Wiggler for the next couple of hours, and then get another one on a little ways up from the first. I figure I can squeeze this one into my tiny net like the first one. No such luck as this one is quite a bit bigger. The hook gets caught in the net, and out of desperation, I lift the net into the boat, with one hook in the fish and the other caught in the net. Miraculously, the fish made it into the boat and promptly threw the hook out of his mouth. A boat near me saw this and offered his salmon net, but I figured I'd be ok (I really should have taken him up on this offer). He saw the events unfold, and just started laughing when I pull the fish into the boat on the outside of my tiny net. Good times. I decided to call it a day at that point and not press my luck further. Since I had very low expectations going into the day based on other reports and my previous attempt, I would call this a very successful day.
