After reading Flyrodder's reports I had to go check it out. It's been 35 years since I fished this lake, with no outstanding memories. MAN, HAVE THINGS CHANGED! I got on the lake around 5 pm. By 5:10 I had my first bass, 11" or so. Then I worked may way down a ways and stopped to light a smoke. As I lifted my fly off the bottom it felt heavy so I snapped the rod tip up. All hell broke loose as this largemouth broke the surface, thrashing and shaking his head. Then he dove for a submerged log. There was no stopping him with my 5 wt. and 4 lb test leader. Line was screaming off the reel. I managed to slow him a little, but he broke off. I will be better prepared next time. This was the kind of bass you see guys catching on TV. I've been hearing the reports, and seen some pictures, but it was the first time I've hooked one over a pound and a half. I finished off the evening with about 10 more small bass and a 17" cutthroat. I heard a splash over my shoulder as I was working the docks and flipped my fly towards it. After 3 or 4 strips the cutty hit. I was using my favorite, olive next gen wooley bugger, full sink line this time. Nice to be able to fish for 2 different species without changing flies.

I got to take a picture for another angler that had a nice 17-18" largemouth. He took it on a popper. What a great afternoon!
