Report for November 22, 2014

Fished the green at Metzler Drift all morning. Hooked up on a couple of chum using bobber/dark purple jig. Had a piece to table shrimp hooked on it as well. Tried eggs/shrimp/ and jigs+shrimp. Not many bites all morning for the whole bank.

I met a younger guy Garret (?) with his uncle - also floating pink jigs and occasionally drift fishing. He was pretty good and landed about 5-6 chum while the rest of the river had 5-6 total. They left early for lunch and didnt see them again- although they were coming back for more!

I ended the day around noon with just 3-4 hookups and most were quick pull and spit out...Nothing landed. Too bad- the rain was starting to weigh down and my damp clothes didnt help.

Most people had luck with about 4 ft leaders under their bobber and almost EVERYONE was tipping their hooks with shrimp. Going to try some sand shrimp tomorrow or cured shirmp at least. I tried drift fishing with shrimp and pink/pink corky & yarn but no bites. Felt a few bumps so at least they were down there. They sure were rollin... just no biting.

Tomorrow is a new day!! and as a weekend warrior, i have no choice but to wake up early and catch me some chum again tomorrow!

Going to the exact same spot tomorrow to test my luck (this was my first time here and i heard they were killing it Friday -- yesterday) .... but for some reason, that's what i hear a lot from people nowadays - "it was great yesterday, slow today". haha

Best,
Linh

I would recommend buying about a dozen uncooked prawns for a few bucks, cutting each one into thirds, then throwing them in an egg cure overnight. Its much cheaper than buying bait and works just as well!

That's exactly what I did the next day @denhambruce ... (Sunday before the Hawks game). Seems like a lot of people were using raw shrimp (without fire cure or any color). Thanks for the suggestion!

@Cromedome - Take the Black Diamond Road exit and turn right... go past your spot (under hwy 18) and go about 5/6 miles until you see the "Metzler Park" sign on the right hand side... you can miss it real easy if you don't pay attention because its right after a right hand curve... but you will see cars (and my truck haha) parked on the OPPOSITE left hand side. Make sure you come before 7 am because they lock the gate and people line up waiting for the gate to open... you can park outside (on the left) and walk in to secure a fishing spot but I wait and park inside to be sure my truck is "safe" in the parking lot.

Hey great to meet you @Bobberdownchromer! I'm glad you found my post and commented... Sounds like you had a good lunch break and right back to the action... You two ended up having a great day! Maybe we can meet up and hit the Wallace for some steelies this winter?! Also, let me know when you come back down south. I'm up for any fishing expedition as a professional weekend warrior haha - I'm hitting the Cowlitz again this weekend if you are interested.

Hey @cromedome --- i found the address off of a previous post... much easier to find Metzler this way than driving around in the dark looking for an unlit sign haha!

18729 SE Green Valley Rd
Auburn, WA 98092

Good luck! and thanks to a previous WA Lakes fishing member for posting the address.. I believe it was @SeattlePat... Thanks!
