Went out today on my last hoorah before the rains hit and having to go back to school. Hit big eddy and within an hour I hooked my first steelhead on a home-tied jig. Got her towards the bank and after tiring her out for a bit tried to drag her on the beach. Problem is I didn't keep my rod tip high enough and the fish turned putting her weight on the rod and evidently popped the hook. Watched it take a couple flops and swim away right before my eyes... Depressing I know but its better than nothing! Making sure not to leave the net in the truck next time.
