Got off work early today so decided to head up the north fork of the nooksack to try for some steelhead. This was more of an exploratory mission since I have never fished that high up on the nooksack and wanted to scope some spots out for future trips. Ended up spending most of my time around the coal creek area as there is quite a large river bar there and you can cover a decent amount of water. I ended up with nothing to show for my efforts. I fished with a jig under a float and tried drifting some beads as well. One of these days I WILL get my first steelhead.....

Try anywhere below Kendall Creek. The hatchery is on Kendall. Right below Welcome bridge(Mosquito Lk Rd) is where the Middle Fork joins and below that is a nice stretch to wade and fish. Thanks for the report. Maybe I'll see you out there?

Thanks for the comment! I was on north fork road today and pulled off a few minutes after it turned into the dirt road, so I was not that far from the hatchery. The wind was really annoying where I was at and made it difficult to cast or really get a feel for what my gear was doing. I am planning on going up on sunday and maybe monday. pm me if you are planning on doing the same. Always a better experience if you have someone to share it with. That goes for anyone else fishing that area! Tight lines

Cool. I haven't been out on the river for a couple of years. I have been talking and talking about getting back out there. I'll shoot you a msg once I get my gear back together. I will probably have my 13 year old boy with me.
