This morning I hiked in to the Hanging Gardens hole again. Started fishing with a drift setup but the water was a little hazey/slightly off colored emerald green so I switched to a blue fox spinner #4. No luck on the spinner for about 30-40 minutes so I decided to tie on a Heddon Tadpolly (silver body w/ orange stripes and ribs). Second cast I hooked a beautiful 1 lb rainbow trout which was extremely surprising given the size of the lure vs trout size haha. I carefully released the Rainbow and said, "I hope your bigger brother is out there too." (On a side note this was the first trip to the Green, out of many, that I landed a fish). So the Little Rainbow was already a pick-me-up). Considering it was starting to rain pretty heavily, the morning was going well (I love fishing in the rain). You won't believe what happened next. The very next cast my lure stopped dead... Which I thought might be bottom because it wasn't the typical strike on a retrieve. I set the hook anyway and the rod bent in half. Feels like bottom... But then it starts head shaking and goes on a run! I was all alone down there but you bet I yelled FISH ON! Landed a beautiful 8-9lb Native on my brand new G.Loomis medium action rod and it couldn't have been a better fish to break in the new rod and break my streak on the Green. It was a great day!
