Today myself and one client met at Blue Creek ramp. It was sunny with a storm front on the horizon. The forecast was for rain, hale, and thunderstorms by 11am. The river was clear and running at 4,000 CFS 46 degrees.

I wanted to get a jump on everyone so I headed down river to try some bait divers since Sunday the guys pulling divers slammed the fish and I did not! I started out with one coon shrimp and one sand shrimp out. Right away we got a hook up but it was a hatchery Cutthroat. No more bites in three holes tried.

Decided to through some bait the rest of the day and we headed up river a ways but below the main crowd. First pass we got a bite, second pass we got our first fish. We spent the next hour drifting this spot and picked up our second fish! Two to go....

So up to the hatchery I headed and we found the fish! Holy *&^ we hooked up 6 times and finally landed our last two fish. It was a great day of fishing for us on a tough day for most. Oh did I mention you could barely see, it was raining so hard the last hour of our trip. Guess it was my turn to have a good day.

Good job today Gary nice job getting those fish to the boat. We had some smoking hot runs and jumps today and the fish seem to be fresh to the system. Saw one springer caught this morning also.

Fishing the Columbia River, Cowlitz River, Chehalis River, Wind River, Drano Lake, and Lake Merwin for salmon, steelhead, and kokanee.

Thanks for the report. How much are steelhead/salmon effected by the weather? Very new to these kinds of fish. Thanks

Yes they are effected by storm fronts and large weather changes. They will go off the bite until the weather stabilizes. Also if the river is on the rise they will stop biting then also. Best to fish when the river is on the drop and weather is stable.
