Had the itch to fly fish. I figured that this creek would have some fish in it. Started at the bottom end of Cowiche Canyon and worked my way up slowly. Caught 8 fish on tan elk hair caddis size 12-16. All the fish were around the 6" mark, but they were good fun and very aggressive and acrobatic. It was definitely a fun little exploration, with some shade added in as a bonus!

Congrats on catching some fish in Cowiche Canyon. I fished it a few times last year with no luck. What made me stop was that I thought I saw a sign that said you weren't supposed to leave the trail (meaning no wading) and I was curious if you saw the same thing or if your caught fish in places where the trail was right along the creek.

I've heard (having never fished Cowiche Creek outside of the canyon) that the fishing is better in the foothills out past Tieton. Never fished it, but have heard it's much better than closer to town. Maybe something you want to check out, I don't know. I meant to include this in the last post but compeletely slipped my mind until I posted it.

That sign did make me think a second. However, I just walked wherever there was a clearly beaten path. There are a few places where the trail goes right by the creek. I probably shouldn't have been wading. I'll be more careful next time. I figured that the sign was to protect the fragile desert vegetation. Thanks for calling me out on it, though, appreciate it. And I do think that the low flow numbers do have something to do with the success. This drought might endanger the fish, but it makes them easier to catch for sure.

I was just asking your opinion. I took it differently, doesn't make me right or wrong. How clear was the water? Last year about this time, with all the runoff, it was off color But it as low and clear I assume?

The water was pretty clear, a tiny bit chalky in some places.

They just changed the fishing rules and I think Cowiche isn't open anymore for fishing. At least it says in the new regulations that only streams listed in the regs are now open, and I couldn't find Cowiche listed in there anywhere. But it does say that the new regs don't start until July:

It's listed under naches river tributaries I think.
