I hiked a bit up the closed Middle Fork road with my partner in crime last evening and fished a nice eddy where they are planning on putting in a kayak launch on the river. The pool was very deep and active with fish who were hitting copper johns weighted down with a piece of shot and later in the evening some PMD sparkle duns on the surface. I landed one nice, hard fighting/jumping rainbow on the copper john and then lost two on the dry flies later on. The fish didn't start rising and feeding until close to 7:30pm and the water was super warm, close to 65 degrees. I can't tell if the road project will be an improvement to the fishing on the this part of the river. Once they pave it and open it next year I anticipate lots more people getting up to stretched of river that were previously a challenge to access. I plan on enjoying as much of it as I can now and may bring my bike up there on the next trip to try and get farther up stream.
