Drove up to the Samish for a few hours of combat fishing fun. I paid to play at the best spot on the river with the pilings located on the north side of the river where the WDFW welts unit is. Is $20 for people 15 and older to access thier private land. We got multiple bumps, but no hookups for me or my son as we are still learning how soft the bite. The regulars and locals were getting some great fish. I was told the kings are late and this was the best day this year. If you got $20, waders and a few 3/4 oz jigs w/ Chartruse or white twin tales this is well worth the admission.

Current regulations governing terminal tackle rigging and presentation technique specifically for the Samish is simply worded: “Only fish hooked inside the mouth may be retained.”

Below Interstate 5, the bag limit is two salmon a day and, for now, anglers may fish from one-hour before sunrise to one hour after sunset daily (night fishing ban). You may only use one single-point hook on their lines.

If you're up for some mostly friendly combat fishing get there as early as possible. Remember to be repectfull and reel in when there is a hookup and you will offered inside fishing knowledge if your new.

The picture is just a google image I found.

They hit your line and you jerk as hard as you can and hope to snag it in the mouth with a 3/4 jig!!!
The way to fish this river the right way is to float eggs so you don't have to snag!

what a joke this fishery has become cant believe anybody thinks these fish bight lingcad jigs and the joke of a game dept in this state alows it to happen 3/4 oz is rediculous a 1/4 oz or a split shot even holds it in the mud were the fish cant see it its been a couple years since ive been there but sucks dodging these big weights flying out of a snagged fish surprised no ones been seriously hurt by these also that size jig head means the hook is to big the rules for anti snagging which is in effect states no bigger then3/4 " from shank to point which is a 2/0 hook 3/0 is to big also cant belive anyone pays theres a easment on bridges so stepping over the guard rail then walking down to the muck is legal and they cant say nothing as long as your in the high water mark they cant stop you from fishing that side as long as you dont walk on the dike I called olympia last year to find out and the samish from the mouth to half way up to the chuckanut bridge is a navigtable stream i really dont get why he should be able to charge i know the land is leased from them but its all up kept by the dike district which im pretty sure is funded by tax dollars
