Headed out to Thomas Eddy expecting a good day due to the good rain a few days ago and today's overcast and rainy forecast. The Silvers were there, jumping and smacking the water. A little less than last Friday, but still there none the less. I had picked up some store bought eggs since I had ran out. I tied a double egg loop knot on my hook and put a nice purple and black yarn ball on the bottom loop. I was using 10# fluorocarbon for my leader and had it between 2-3 feet all day. After rigging up the rest of my setup, which included my spinning reel attached to my heavy fly rod (worked great for floating), I put my eggs on the hook and it was game on.

I passed my float through every area I saw fish jump and the areas that I thought they may be sitting by looking at the water movement, but nothing was biting. I adjusted my float up and down for different areas and nothing. I moved to a faster spot and tried drifting eggs. I may have had a couple bites, but no hookup. It also could have been the river bottom since it tapped in the same area a few times. Started moving back to my original hole. Fish still jumping. Gave it another shot, but this time I ditched the yarn/egg combo and just went with eggs. Everything looked good. Float was drifting nicely. Straight up and down, adjusted my float if I saw I was dragging bottom. I did everything I knew how to do to get the eggs at the fish level but never had a hookup. I'm beginning to wonder if the way I'm putting the eggs on the hook is causing the eggs to look unappealing to the fish. All suggestions and critiques welcome.

I saw 2 or 3 fish get pulled out during the 4 hours I was there, but that was it.

When I returned to my car I realized I did not have my net. Must have left it on shore somewhere. Please let me know if you find a folding net that unfolds into a large triangle net. Net color is dark green. Long handle is chrome/grey and there is a clip near the net end of the handle that I use to attach to my vest. That net has literally been around the world. It's a long shot, but if you see it please PM me. Thanks.

Tight lines!

Get rid of the yarn, its not doing you any favors. A natural presentation is best for eggs. Remember to change your technique and presentation. All too often anglers get set in their wats sitting at one spot with one technique piunding the water to a froth. If your not getting getting hook ups chanhe is the answer, change color, change lures, change depth, technique or locations or all of th e above.
A side bar is that with all of the constant unrelenting pressure thomas eddy is getting now, finding rested water will be darn near impossible there. Perhaps you aught to try a new location.
