Brenda and I went to the Cowlitz yesterday ...long day. Left Puyallup at about 430 am. Stopped by subway for sandwiches for lunch then headed to Blue Creek. After about a 90 minute drive we got there at about 615. Suppose to meet Marc between 700 and 730 so we relaxed in the truck. Got on the water about 745. We fished from Blue Creek launch, back drifting several baits behind divers. It was a really slow day. No one catching anything. About 1030 got a big hit. Marc set the hook and passed the pole to Brenda. She fought the fish for a few minutes and got the fish near the boat and then it was gone. No idea what happened. Marc had the net ready. Brenda seemed to do every thing right, kept the line tight pole bent. Only thing I can think of was that she kept reeling and when the fish saw to boat it took a run and pulled the hook. Felt bad she lost it. I really wanted her to catch a fish. We got back to trolling. At 230 pm we got another big hit on the pole by me. I let Marc set the hook, I always set to early and pull the hook out off their mouth. I wanted Brenda to take the pole but she refused so I took over. It was great, a steelie. Watching it swimming and taking runs. Water was super clear. About 5 minutes of fighting and Marc netted it. Didn't weight it so it had to be at least 18 pounds. LOL. At 330 I decided to pack it in. Brenda and I had a great time even as slow as it was.
