I had a couple hours unaccounted for and with the rivers being closed I hit the “Wall”. Arriving around 12:30 I had figured that all fishermen were Seahawks fans and I would have the place to myself, wrong… There was a crowd but it wasn’t too bad so I rigged up and got to work. Fishing the top of the “wall drift” on a high tide my first drift went bendo but the fish got mixed up with my downstream buddies gear and I lost the fish. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted and I should have learned a lesson; it just happened that I was running an 8# top shot (complements of a recent coho trip) on my braid and I lost many fish while I was there. I started out fishing my standard chum set-up, a small black and green corky, purple yarn on a 3’ leader but with the low stream flow I quickly went to just yarn. I was there for a few hours, maybe 3 and aside from re-tie time was hooked up the whole time. I probably hooked 15 or 16 fish and punched 2 hens and one large buck. I don’t know if it is my technique or the fact that I run smaller hooks but of all the fish that I hooked only two were hooked outside the mouth and even then they were hooked forward of the gill plates. I did see many fish caught that were hooked in the motor but generally people dropped those fish in the tube for an express trip to the holding pond.

As fun as my brief fishing vacation was it was not without incident. I had just run a fish down to the stairs, dropped it in the tube and walked back to where my fish were to gather things up and head home. My buck was laying there but the two hens were nowhere to be found. Someone had walked off with just my hens. Normally a non-issue but I was hoping to put up a bunch of eggs. My fishing trips this year have been a blast but they have been limited. Oh well the time out was enjoyed and I’ll be back. In parting; even when crowed this fishery works and is a blast, nothing like pulling on a big dog with light gear. If everyone pays attention, uses the same basic technique, is respectful and works together it goes smoooothly and is fun for all.

I have had that happen to me over the years. Best to run them up to your car. Keep an eye on your pole if u leave it by a bench. They have disappeared also.

Just out of curiosity, what is the limit on that creek? Reading regulations and it says : up to 2 adults may be retained. Daily limit is 6.

""punched 2 hens and one large buck"? That means hens were like chum jacks or at least one of them? Never knew they exist. A little confusing for me.
My understanding is you may have only 2 chums over there.

Wow! You got me on that one. I pride myself in understanding and following the regulations. I and alot of other people thought it was a 4 adult limit. Thank you for pointing out my error.

I've paid my price for mistake like that some time ago and it is painfull. Trying to fish by the book, no matter what. So every time when I am going to some not very familiar to me waters I read "fishing bible" over and over make sure I understand very well those regulations. Sometimes trying to find something in between the lines.
There is another question about CRC when you send it in by the end of year: to me looks like they are going to call you about amount of fish you've got that day on that creek, aren't they? Unless you are not going to send the card in.

What's wrong with these pictures of salmon? They look deformed?? Is it just really close up?
So were these Chum, or steal head you were fishing for?

This fish was normal but interesting; it was a chromer with very faint bars when removed from the water. Then you could almost watch the purple tinge develop after it was bled. The teeth are common for mature male chums.
