Used my day off to brave the chill and try for some Steelies after hearing the river has cleared up. Tied up some jigs under a float and started around 7A.M. water was too quick for a float down river so I moseyed back up to the hatchery and tried to find a spot. Saw one nice fish caught that decided to take the fisherman for a swim, luckily no one got swept away. As for me no such luck. All the people that were catching fish seemed to drift fishing. So I packed up and left around 11.

Anyone have some advice for a fairly new steelhead fisherman?

Always try to match those who are catching is a good place to start.

Ryan who wrote this is an amazing steelhead angler on the Sky and other local rivers. possibly search his reports and read those as well. very informational.

Read anything written by Bill Herzog. He teaches you how to read a river and what important factors determine steelhead placement in the river. Summer or winter fish, they'll be in the same areas depending mainly on water temp. Get a fishing thermometer.

Ryan is a good dude, you should hit him up and pay for a guided day on the river to get hooked up. Reel priorities, I think
