Took off Sunday morning in order to explore the upper sections of the river. I decided to try to explore and check out some areas that I've spotted out during my map reconnaissance. I started below 405 and worked my down to several areas I've never been to before. Early on there was very little activity by other people around these spots and I had a few areas to myself to scout out. Some of these places stunk and were terrible so I scratched them off my potential spot list.

I finally got down to the Auburn area and threw some lines in growing tired of just wandering lugging pole around. After the 3rd or 4th cast I noticed something moving a few feet away. A zombie salmon decided to hang out next to me in some gravel by the beach. It was ugly, spawned out, and had no idea what the heck was going on. He decided to swim in this spot for the next 15-20 minutes I fished here. I ended up trying a DK 50/50 and drifted for a while. Seeing no other rollers, or no other activity, I opted to move further up river.

Stopping near the golf course, I found some OK water but not the best - faster moving water - but running short on time I decided it would have to do. I had a nice clearing to cast from and battling blackberry bushes, thorns, and crazy brush making a tangle of my lines and gear as I scouted I was ready to have some open space to fish at. I started drifting DK 50/50's and had nothing. I moved on and finished the day drifting sandshrimp and eggs (both store bought). Although the river was moving fairly fast from all I could tell I was able to dial in the pencil lead and had a great few drifts. The only issue was there was no fish! Several guys were across the river fishing as I arrived and several more tried as I kept going. I didn't see anything or anyone land much of anything.

I hope to get out next weekend and do some more scouting in preparation for Chum - if they have not already shown up. I'd really like to catch a fish on the system and get some eggs I can cure myself. One can hope and wish but this is the name of the game. Good luck to everyone else out there!
