This lake is actually in BC, Canada but is so close to the border that
you can walk to the border and back in to the US...I received this hot tip
from a couple of guys while fishing Sidley Lk near Molson. When I arrived
it was about 90 and a bit windy. While setting up my camping spot I thought
what the heck I'll cast out a marshmallow and worm and see what happened.
After about 10 min I glanced over and saw my rod bent double. Luckily I had
weighted it down with a rock. After about a 10 min fight I brought in a nice
19 inch football...this fish was a pig! Out my line went and about a half hour later
wham another one about 14 inches. This one was mutant with it's back about 3 inches across
and a tiny head...The feed in this crystal clear water was incredible with damsel flies by
the billions. Half the lake is a 5ft deep shoal with weed beds over about 3/4 of the lake.
The hardest part of fishing this lake was keeping the fish from breaking off my 4 lb leader.
I lost 6 fish of 5-10 plus lbs. I spoke with a local and he said the fish easily grow 2 lbs or more
a year and that this was the 5th year that the lake hasn't had winter kill. I had one fish that took
off and I could not slow it down till it broke off. I'm going back here this Fall for some serious
fishing when the weather cools off.
