My neighbor and fishing buddy Mike L. has been telling me about this secret lake for about 3 or 4 years and of the monster bass named Kong that lives there. The huge fish has been hooked but never landed. When hooked he heads for the submerged tree limbs and breaks off or becomes unhooked. According to Mike, "King Kong" may never be actually landed -- He is just too smart, too big and too strong. It is a private lake and I had never been invited to fish it until yesterday afternoon. After arriving at the lake and giving it a quick look, I headed for some trees laying in the water across the lake. I had only fished for about 15 minutes when there was a huge swirl under my floating Rapala. I slammed the trebles and the battle was on. After a great fight I had Kong to the boat and then back into the water attached to a tether. I yelled to Mike who was across the lake fly fishing that I had Kong. Mike came over, shaking his head in disbelief. We got a pic and Kong was thanked for the memories and gently released. A beautiful chunky fish of 5 pounds even and 21 1/2 inches long. Long live King Kong!
