WENT OUT ON THIS LITTLE GEM NOT MORE THAN A MILE FROM MY HOUSE. have BEEN FISHING THIS POND SINCE THE FARM had cows that use to drink from the pond, last five years or so farmer sold the land and since then an IKEA and a Pierce County Maintenance Facility have gone up close by but ran into a Pierce county guy surveying the land around the pond and he said they were not going to touch the pond but raise the road because it sometimes gets flooded over with a wet winter. Good news for me . Any hoot two weeks ago went down there the Half dollar size lillie pads that come up were not there yet but coming up, noticed activity by the bank just outside the grass, using a fly rod which by the way now that the pads are up you have to go weedless or use top water poppers. So I know there are big Bass in here just never been able to get the One. So I was wading along the bank seen some movement ahead of me using flyrod w/ San Juan worm only about 1"1/2 long red in color gave it a cast next to the grass where there is a ledge before dropping off into deeper water and saw this wake moving towards the fly right after it hit the water, gave it one twitch and the wake got big towards the fly waited till I felt the fish and set the hook, Wow she leaped up and I was in for a good fight, she dove deep like they always do to wrap me up in weeds but knew about this trick from others lost so kept the line tight didn't give any slack just kept constant pressure and minute later held for the first time the biggest bass I have ever caught in this pond. Knew there were big ones in here it is just that the fish are so in tune with what goes on around the banks that it is hard to get close without spooking them and believe me they spook easy. Sometimes casting to them 10 fish or so will be just under the surface and I cast the line to a spot and whoosh they spook from the line just whizzing over there head. But at times when the bite is on they will go after the poppers with a vengeance. Then there was yesterday, drove by the pond on Monday had no pole just checking it out noticed a lot of activity still around the banks so gave it a go yesterday, started out seeing movement in little pockets went to cast to them and spook three or four off to the left that couldn't even see, waited ten minutes for things to settle down tried again, had big one start to come to the popper only to have a littler one beat it to the popper, nothing after that, moved to where I caught the 5 lb. er and nothing the pads are up now and looks like they are going to be even thicker than last year. Noticed fish hanging in the pads but still no bites. Went to other end where saw movement the previous day, fished the small pockets between the grass and pads, caught three little bass, saw more movement in the cove at the end figured I go for one of them. About the third cast, in the grass reeds something big started to come out, remembered from other trips to keep bait moving, that most times when you pause they lose interest, also hard to keep from pulling the popper out of the basses mouth before he has it. Not this time she ate it off the surface with a whoosh and it was on, didn't leap just went straight at me like a bullet, kept up with her until she hit a clump of the reed grass still felt her on and knew not to horse them because they get the hook in the grass wrap you up and when you go to apply pressure again your popper comes out with grass. Well even after she wrapped herself in the clump I still felt her on gave some slack because sometimes when you do that they free themselves well she stayed in the clump and when I tightened out came the popper with a clump of grass. The grass still moving she was probably still in there didn't know she was unhooked, saw all kinds of bubbles and the grass moving around then a wake heading for deep water Gone, I don't get that mad at losing them much anymore not worth the heartache but that one hurt, had to be at least 7lber. or better. Any hoot a lot of other people see me fishing this pond some stop to talk and say they have fished there and not caught a thing, most guys do not fish fly rod so they will not catch these fish, tried with worm and bobber but only catch bluegill, which are huge in this pond fight as well as a three lb Bass but unless you use a fly rod with nymphs or a popper on top you'll never catch a thing. Well tight lines guys and gals until next time. Fish-On.

Dear Mike,
Thanks fellow fisherman, at least there is someone else out there that cares, hope I've given you enough info. to help you catch one of the big ones. It is a challenge at this little pond but you can be rewarded with a big one if your there at the right time. Forget to tell you there are also large crappie inthere too. Only can get them to hit poppers or nymphs though. If you want to contact me on e-mail my site is Basser61@comcast.net for more info. Till then good luck!
