My son and I just got back from the Sports Show at the Puyallup. At the trout pond, children 12 and under have 10 minutes to catch a trout. You can either release or keep. They were all given bamboo cane poles, not sure of the pound test and a small bait hook. I noticed the lunker swimming near the bottom and kept on creeping closer to my sons bait (which was a maggot type grub). The smaller trout kept on spitting his bait and not getting hooked..with only 1 minute or so left, his rod bent in half and that monster trout was hooked!! He battled it for about a couple minutes and I could just feel his pole about ready to snap or the fish was going to wriggle free- one of the helpers reached down and lifted the fish out of the water!! It weighed 6 pounds and 23 inches! Even though he caught this in a trout pond, the odds of anyone catching that thing was slim..but my son, who told me later, seen the big one and would have only been satisfied if he caught it- Proud dad!
