Went out fishing today for the 1st Annual Juanita Staff Trout Derby! Fishing was hot all morning. We fished for two hours and then all five of us limited on trout. I was the last one and some of the guys were pulling their boats out waiting for me to catch my fifth. Never was much of a powerbait fisher. Weather was forecasted for rain but turned out to be overcast and even sunny at times! Seven other staff members were supposed to come but missed out today. Doh! Showers happened only 5 minutes out of the two hours we were there. Formula was pretty simple. Chartreuse Powerbait on a size 10 hook attached to an egg sinker. Wait for the tug and BAM! Tip of the day: When fishing with powerbait, don't set the hook on the first strike. Wait for the second strike. The first one is the fish checking out your bait off the bottom, and setting it then might hook the fish, but if it's facing you, it will yank the bait out of its mouth. The second one is when it's stuck in its mouth and ready for you to haul it in. Nice work guys!

1st annual trout derby. Sounds like you have some good, like-minded co-workers. I wonder if it was you who spearheaded this derby.

Hey Quad! Actually, believe it or not it wasn't entirely my idea. This was the brainchild of the teacher that got me back into fishing last summer. Ironically, he couldn't make it to the derby. I ended up getting the trophy for largest stringer and the dude with the Crocodile Dundee hat got biggest fish, a 12 incher that was the same length as my largest but fatter.

Riverchromegs: FYI, though they were only 12 inches, they were all 5+ pounders.
