I decided to go out regardless of weather to a secret lake. I had bushwacked into this lake b4 once, but never fished it. I met up with fellow WALAKES angler, Nomad. We carried in float tube, multiple rods, way more gear than we could use, but of course that is how it always goes.
We were targeting bass mostly. Within a couple of casts I caught a 12" lmb, a few minutes later, an 8" lmb. This was throwing a 4" Watermelon and Chartruese senko type worm. the largies were caught pretty close to the shoreline, in maybe 6" of water. I also through some crank baits, and some rapalas, but no luck with those. I also did a little fly fishing, with a floating line and wooly bugger.Caught a few dink largies with that. My partner caught a couple of black crappie using a crappie jig under a slip bobber. I put on a little different crappie jig about 4' below a bobber. I tipped it with a Gulp maggot. After about 2 min. in the water the bobber went down hard. I could tell the fish was heavier than previous fish, but there wasn't as much fight as i would have thought. Suddenly this fish came in sight from the tube. It was the fattest trout I've caught in quite some time. I had forgot my dip net, so I lipped him like a bass, lol. Trout weighed 3.0 lbs 19.5" was about 4-5" from belly to spine. Great time.
The lake was a gem. of course noboby else was on it, it's a PIA to get to. Have to return in the middle of warmer water times.
