I recently purchased a 9' Livingston and a 10' Jon Boat for an amazing price. I decided to go fishing with Pika206 to test out the livingston. We got to the lake before 10 am and the weather wasn't too bad. It was cloudy but there were patches of clear skies and it wasn't raining.

I recently gave Pat a 7' M American Eagle Rods Casting Rod and my Daiwa Megaforce THSL casting reel as a gift so he could start/learn how to use a casting reel. We both started off throwing crankbaits and I was using my 7'5'' Powell Max Glass Crankbait Rod and Daiwa Exceller Crankbait Reel combo. I decided to switch rods with Pat so he could give it a try and feel the difference. I immediately felt bad because the first cast I made with his rod, I caught a 1 lb 7 oz Smallmouth.

We then switched spots and started drop shotting. Almost right away Pat catches a smallmouth and lets it go. We then started making our way around the lake and didn't get any action for what seemed like a very long time. We were switching off between drop shotting and throwing crankbaits to see if we could find a pattern but nothing was proving to be solid.

We approach some deeper docks and I begin to focus on drop shotting. I cast to the end of this dock and am working my drop shot. I turn away to look elsewhere and I feel the slightest of taps, followed by increased line tension. I immediately turn back and set the hook. Fish On! And it is a Good One! Immediately my adrenaline starts raging and I shout out that it's a 2+ lber, maybe 3. This smallie absolutely took me for a ride and ripped out drag! This was by far the best fight that a bass has ever given me and it was so much fun! We get it in the boat and Pat guesses that it's a 19 incher. He was dead on, it was 19 inches! Amazing! Haha!

We let the fish go and continue to fish. This is when the forecast proved to be dead on. It started pouring down rain and I mean POURING. We brought rain jackets but our jeans soaked in a matter of seconds. Then the wind picked up, following by thunder. We were forced off the water and had to call it an early day.

Best part? Everything was captured on video! Enjoy!

How would you compare the fight of the Smallie vs Largemouth?

A smallmouth will tow a largemouth around a lake all day every day.

Love to see the dedication you put out on the water. I am a Powell / Daiwa only guy with the exception of a few Kistler and Dobyns sticks. Powell makes the best rods at an affordable price IMO. You can pick up an Endurance casting rod at Tacklewarehouse for around a 100 bucks right now too! Have you seen the new Daiwa Lexa 100 reels that will be released at Icast this year?
