My brother and I went to a river I like to call the "Zipper Lip". When we arrived at the hatchery, there were 3 guys there already and no fish. That was not a good sign. We started fishing and the guys started piling in. Eventually we saw one get caught. We moved to the hole just above the hatchery and I hit one. The adipose fin was halfway chewed off and I didn't want to argue with the warden so I kicked it back.
Eventually we drove down the river and worked our way up and back down, but only saw one more fish caught. It was getting late and we decided to go back up to the hatchery and see if any fish moved in. When we arrived, the parking lot was empty! I was casting and walking at the same pace as my bobber trying to cover as much water as possible and right at the tail end of the hole my bobber dropped. As soon as I set, I saw a good size flash under water and the adrenalin started flowing. A couple runs and flip flops later, I had another on the bank. The adipose was good on this one so I tagged it. We fished until dark but no other hits.
I was hoping my brother would have caught one because it was his first time to this river, I don't really like to take people to the river so they can watch me catch fish. I would tell him to cast to a spot and wait, then start fishing. Maybe next time. It was my birthday and the first day of vacation, which made it a double bonus to catch fish.
We were fishing a Colombia trib and when I looked up the river code I noticed the new rule for barbless for salmon and steelhead, so make sure you pinch those barbs now. Also, I caught one fish on a pink/white jig and one on nightmare.

Dude if the adipose is tampered with in any way, it's a hatchery fish, think about working at a hatchery and having to clip thousands and thousand of fish! some are bound to be a little goofy looking. but never the less, Very nice fish!

I have let a few go because of the adipose fin not being completely gone, I have volunteered at hatcheries and cut the fins off also, but it's ok, I should get more fish, at least it the small one! As far as the "secret" location post, I probably won't post that much from this river because I don't like when people post just to brag. But, I post with as much info as I can to help people out for salmon. Plus, some people try to wait for someone else to do the foot work so they can walk down where fish are and get an easy limit. I can't help with that.

Hmmmmmm, I was not aware that the zipper lip was actually ------. Most hatcheries use automatic clippers rather than let people come in and handle all the fish.

It is OK to have secret spots. Just general area is required to be shared and techniques that work could be beneficial :)

A secret report is better than no report when people want to see chrome. Thanks for posting.

Cool to read, and totally your call on what to share. Let's face it, there are a lot of folks looking for an easy place to catch fish, and it takes work-just great to hear the stories. And, if you put in the work and move around a bit, sometimes you catch fish!

dang, I always miss the 30 day suspension comments. :-( We'll lock comments before things go too side-ways. I liked the chrome anyway. :-)
