Fished Offut Lake for the first time. The weather was mostly cloudy with lots of wind, and very choppy and rain sometimes (which is hard for someone rowing an inflatable raft) but the nasty weather was worth it!

The trout ignored pretty much everything we offered until we tried nightcrawlers trolled with about 3' - 4' leader, an offering which they were quite enthusiastic about. We (my two younger kids and myself) fished the lake in the morning caught 9 fat rainbows (averaging 9" - 12" long) in about four hours (3 each). In the evening, I returned with my oldest daughter and we caught 5 more, 4 for her and 1 for me. Also, she picked up her first largemouth bass, a little scrapper that we released right away so that he could get bigger.

The fish were hitting hard all day once we figured out what they wanted. One big bruiser (which we unfortunately lost) snapped my younger daughter's inexpensive pole on his way to the next county. :) The pole he broke is included in the attached picture.

Sighting a bald eagle was icing on the cake.

Nice fish and nice fishing!
