I decided to post this report under "secret" in preparation for some of my Columbia River Salmon Reports. All my salmon fishing will take place between White Bluffs and Brewster, but in some cases I have decided to not be too specific.

Wednesday was my last June Kokanee trip. I launched with my morning crew at 8am and started my task of hunting down some monster Kokes. For this trip I decided to try stacking lines on my downriggers. The first line I clipped in was 2 colors leaded line. This line sinks 10' deeper than my ball. Also at my ball I attached a mono line on a second release. By utilizing a Mack's Double D Dodger side planing capabilities I was able to push this line out to the side and up and away from the leaded line. I repeated this method on both sides of the boat, and It worked like a charm. With a single line on the back down rigger we were fishing 5 rods between 15-50'. Fishing was consistent and by 1:00 we were cleaning our 8 kokes.

My second trip of the day started at 2 pm. It was just 2 of us for the afternoon bite. Lots of planter rainbow kept us busy, but we managed to land our 4 kokes in just a couple of hours. Largest Koke of the day weighted in at 3.75 pounds.

I wish every day was a 12 koke day.

I thought I would share just how I've been rigging my Coho Killers. First I cut off all the rings. Next I just slide a pre-tied double hook leader thru the holes at each end, and add a swivel to the other end. This also works great on the Phobe spoons I've also been having great success with.

VERY nice report and info Captain!
Do you feel it is necessary to have downriggers? Are there any kok's in the upper portion of the water column?
Are you running any gear in front of the spoons?

Clawman, I think the word maybe will answer all of your questions. Down riggers are usefull, but not the only way to get baits to 50, 60, 70' deep. Some choose to use 4-6oz of lead to do this and may take some practice to get it right. Check out my last report and you will see we caught some really shallow fish the were feeding near the surface. I run small dodgers in from of my gear, but sometimes run them without and still do well. Find the food, find the fish. The food can be anywhere.

Will the koks migrate northward as it nears their spawning migration? Wondering when above the mouth might pick up.

Am I detection some powder paint on those Phoebe spoons? Ever try slipping contrasting beads on the line between the holes in the spoon?

Nice setup on the Coho Killers, have you ever tried it for sockeye? Also what size and color of DD dodger did you use? I was thinking of experimenting with the Coho Killer on Baker Lake here in a couple of weeks.

Clawman, your a genius...and out comes the beads. Small DD dodger. I've also will be testing on sockeye this year. Watch the leader as it will chaffe over time.

Ok, cats out of the bag, I tried this on sockeye last year and it works! I plan to do a little write up on my rigging process shortly after this year's Baker opener.
